Roulette 101: Inside Bets

Any bet that is made in the inner part of the roulette table (where the number grid is located) is called an inside bet. Any player who looks at the roulette table lay out will immediately recognize the number grid. The initial idea that comes to players when they approach the roulette table for the first time is that they can bet on any number on the wheel. That is absolutely right, but that won't be all the inside bets you can ever make in roulette.

Before we discuss all the inside bets in roulette let's touch on table minimums first. Every table game in the casino will always have what is called a table minimum. If the roulette table you chose is a seven-dollar table it means that your minimum bet should be seven dollars. You can bet the whole seven dollars on one number or spread the seven dollars on different numbers.

Let's now move on to the first and perhaps the most popular inside bet there is in roulette - the straight bet. This bet is also known among roulette players as the classic bet. With this bet you are betting where exactly will the ball land on. This is a really popular bet simply because it pays a lot. The pay off for this bet is a whopping 35 to one. But the odds of this bet ever winning are a tough one in 36.

The split bet is a bet in roulette where you are wagering on two numbers. The odds for this bet to win are slightly better than the straight bet. The pay off is at 17 to one, which is not bad at all. You can win 170 dollars out of a 10-dollar bet if it wins. To make the split bet, just place your chips on the land in between two numbers, and that's it.

Moving forward, a three-number bet (A.k.a. Street bet) is also possible in roulette. This bet has a pay off of 11 to one in roulette. The street bet is betting on a row of numbers. You win if the ball lands on any of the three numbers you chose.

The square bet (or four-number bet, also known as the corner bet) is like the two previous bets. Pay off is at eight to one. Odds of winning in roulette are 38 to four. You make this bet by placing your chips on a corner where four numbers meet.

The last inside bet in roulette is the five-number bet. You place your chips on the upper left corner of the One on the roulette table lay out. You are betting the first row of numbers and on 0 and 00. You win six to one with odds at 38 to five.

These are the inside bets you can make when you play roulette. It's all pretty simple and would only require a few games to master.
